Future for KIDS has been a great opportunity for me. I have learned so much during my
time here. I came into this organization not knowing too much about a non-profit
organization. It was a good experience to learn how a non-profit organization is run
and all the effort that is put into them. It was nice to be able to work on our own
projects and not just overlook others. I feel that this hands-on experience really
helped to prepare me for my future.
I worked on several projects in the office, but the majority of my time was spent
working on the silent auction for the golf tournament. Making calls to businesses
throughout the valley to ask for donations was challenging to me at first, but after a
few calls I had the techniques down. It really helped me to grow professionally. It was
great being able to be so involved in the organization and having the chance to attend
events outside of the office such as a board meeting, the haunted house preview, and
the sites. Everyone involved in Future for KIDS have great relationships with each other
and you can see the passion that each person has for the organization.
Going to the sites each week to spend time with the children was a learning experience
for me. It was amazing to see how the kids opened up more and more each week. I remember
the first week I went to the site, the kids were very hesitant to talk to me and be around
me. However, by the end of the program, the children were running up to me to share their
weekly stories. It was exciting to see the joy in the kids as they participated in the
activities each week. They worked hard each week to improve their skills. I can only
hope that I have impacted these children as much as they have impacted me.
